The darkest Mankell that I have read yet. It's a complicated plot that works because the reader knows more than the lead character. It's a depressing view of modern society and how violence mutates and rules sometimes. Written in 1996 but still very relevant to the time we are living in. Vigilante justice, terrorism, extremists. Not very upbeat subjects but Mankell somehow makes it work.
