This is the 80's with all that implies. AIDS, Reagan, the right getting back power. Our heroes have grown up and in their mid thirties and early forties they are still making some dubious choices like Brian and Mary Ann, experiencing the new order AIDS has imposed on their lives, Michael alone tries to get back into the game but without much enthusiasm. Still entertaining but with a subtext of sadness, fun has been replaced by ambition, togetherness by alone in a crowd doing your own thing. A bit of a sad read but it had bit of brilliance in it.
