Humm.. very average. The whole hero is not really beautiful etc is turned around and his "ugliness" is used in the same way as the "beauty" is usually used so nothing really new there. The end feels tacked on and rushed but that's nothing new either. The whole fairytale excerpts at the beginning of each chapter rapidly become boring and useless. But, there are some interesting things like Anne facing and assuming her physical desire, the two demi-monde sisters Anne rescues, Edward's valet, Anne's mother in law. But they don't balance out the average plot, average and paper thin villains and the supposedly best friends of Edward's (I assume the heroes of the two later books)are so underdeveloped that they could be someone Edward met on the streets the day before.I don't know. I'm not sorry I read it but the cover promises more than the book can deliver.
