Deadly to the Sight: A Mystery of Venice (Urbino Macintyre Series)

Deadly to the Sight - Edward Sklepowich Next in the series of Mystery of Venice. Urbino is back in Venice from his trip and liaison with Sebastian with a young companion, Habib. Coming back to write and to his beloved Venice, it takes the death of a old lace maker to bring Urbino back in the thick of things. Sklepowich writes Venice into each of his mysteries like an expert weaver. January, with the fog, the night stroll, the sound of the waves, everything melts into a sense of expectation. Burano is featured predominately in this one. So is the relationship of Urbino and Habib and Urbino's and Barbara's friendship. All in "demi-teinte", never in a flashy way or blunt. All in minutes touches. Tenderness, caring. Habib taking care of Urbino, Barbara playing devil's advocate. The mystery finally unravels and all's well that ends well. Nice characters development and solid mystery. A fantastic combination.
