My first Hansen and I liked it a lot. Noir yes but with a definite style twist that I liked. He doesn't try to redo Hammett or Chandler, Hansen does his own thing and it works. I liked his lead character Dave Brandsetter. I can see a lot of him in some of the more recent gay detective heroes I've read but he's the original and it shows. I like how subdue the plot is while still driving the story to it's logical conclusion no happy endings but maybe a silver lining in the near future. I'm definitely gonna read the next title soon.
