This was a fantastic read. Not an easy read but a fantastic one just the same. Huge book, over 1000 pages long with political history, social commentary and most of all a family saga that keeps you going "What happens next?" Darn, this next part is about Savita or Haresh or Lata or Maan, of course never the one you want to keep reading about. : )I loved it. The whole feel of watching families live and go through a period of tumults in this very young democratic India. Religious conflicts, social conflicts you get everything. Four families, their destinies entwined through marriages, love, betrayals, friendship, politics even violence.I especially liked Maan's story. At first I didn't like him at all but he grows on you and grows up himself. His journey was the one that I liked best. I've read somewhere, can't remember where, that there is so much more we (the reader) want to know about their characters we followed for 18 months, from one marriage to another. Spoilers below.....And I do want to know more, I want to know if Pram and Savita have another baby, does she becomes a lawyer? What about Firoz and Maan do they repair their "friendship"? Does Maan's father go back to politics or does Maan become one himself? Does Varun finally find happiness with an older woman? As a lj-friend said : we need fanfic.
