Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights

Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights - Charlotte Bronte;Emily Bronte This is a reread. I read this 20 years ago for school. Reading it again with a reader's eye instead of a scholar's eye, I find that I still like the style, the characters and intellectually I get the utmost freedom Charlotte Brontë gives Jane. But the modern reader in me is irritated by St-John Rivers, the whole religious mantra, etc. Still, Jane is a strong, willful person. That makes her way into life and in the end gets her prize: a family, love not just existing.
