More like 3 1/2 stars. This is a period of the celebrated architect's life before he became "Frank Lloyd Wright". His love and life with Mamah Borthwick, the few years they spent together (1909-1914) are not that well known or documented except for the press articles about the scandal of her leaving her husband and children and him doing the same. Nancy Horan gives us a glimpse of their lives, imagined, interpreted but it rings true. The emotions, the struggles, the love. Knowing how it ends and how Wright picked up the remains of his life after the tragedy and became, well, "Frank Lloyd Wright" the most important architect of the 20th century, you can't help but mourn how things might have been if only.
