When Red Is Black

When Red Is Black - Qiu Xiaolong I am still very much enjoying these slice of life in the 90's in Shanghai. Chen is taking more of a back seat in this story where Yu investigates the murder of a dissident writer. Political intrigues, political influence and every day life merge and give the reader a colourful and very interesting view of the new capitalist China, trying to merge Chinese socialism and a money driven way of life. The murder mystery is solid and the reader can pick up the clues along with Yu but I read for the whole atmosphere and somewhat very exotic travel to a city very far away from my reality.
