3 stars for its take on romance literarure and how it doesn't have to be a guilty pleasure reading. The self help aspect of the book becomes redondant early on and doesn't really give anything new to the very large corpus of self help psychology out there. The twist of using romance novels as text books for the basic 'rules' guide is fun and Wendell doesn't pretend otherwise. She is celebrating the empowering effect of her favourite romance novels. It's a quick read, doesn't take itself seriously and you end up with a few titles of really good books to discover.
