FUGUE (LA)

La fugue - Pascal Blanchet This is the story of the family of the author. Pascal Blanchet's illustrations are magnificient in their simplicity yet they bring an enormous emotional charge. A man learns the piano, moves to the city plays jazz in a bar, is lonely, finds love, goes to war, comes back to love, a family, music, life. Life goes on, love dies, you grow old, all you have left are memories. Fugue is one huge flashback with very little text, yet you hear the music, the laughs, the sorrow, the sighs of relief at the ultimate moment of escape. Obviously I liked it. All in sepia tones with the bright red used to very good effect, it's a gorgeous graphic novel with an intimate air to it.
