A whodunnit set in the London season. It almost reads like a Regency type of intrigue. Alleyn is investigating the death of a close friend which brings murder, blackmail, deceit and illegal gambling onto the stage instead of debutantes, chaperons and handsome, rich, young gentlemen. The clues are there but I didn't catch them or I was blind to the obvious. The culprit is unmasked, the villains are punished and Alleyn meets Troy again. I liked it quite a bit. I was kept entertained and guessing. All good things for a mystery novel.
