4 stars because it was the perfect first day of spring/summer reading outside in the sun on a Saturday kinda of book. More realistically, it's a solid 3 stars. This is Phryne Fisher's bow and it starts with a bang. Kerry Greenwood manages to introduce the ensemble cast of supporting characters to Miss Fisher's capers in a smooth way. Both Dot and Dr Elizabeth MacMillan, Bert and Cec are all well rounded with the limited space within the pursuit of bad guys. I liked the humor, the devil may care attitude and the whole 'allure' of the novel. I'm definitely reading book 2.
