The Little Death (The Henry Rios Mysteries)

The Little Death - Michael Nava This was the opening bow for Henry Rios, Nava's lead character in his mystery/legal series featuring a lawyer with personal problems (booze, depression, life). In The Little Death, Rios is facing a cul-de-sac in his career as a public defendant. He meets Hugh Paris as his client and fall for him in a desperate, sabotaging my life, big way. Paris ends up dead and Rios embarks on a quest to bring his murderer to justice, falling further more in his spiral descent into personal hell. This is not joy-joy, happy-happy. More the beginning of Rios' journey towards redemption. Nava's books are all in shades of grey and black.
